Getting the most out of your lesson

If you take a music lesson once a week, you are most likely getting only minutes with your instructor, so how can you maximize that valuable time? Try these 2 strategies this week and you will be amazed at your next lesson.

1. The first thing to do is GO PRACTICE! If you really want to make the most of your lesson then you must be prepared. Make sure that you have as many, if not all, assignments worked on and ready. That means if you discussed talking about having something such as two new scales or a particular passage learned, then do just that. If you don’t have your goals met, then it becomes a challenge for the instructor to add on and build on more concepts. Instructor’s want to give their students more, so it’s a win-win for everyone when that happens.

2. Teachers also love answering questions! If you’re practicing throughout the week then it’s very likely that some questions arise. As you get questions, write them down in your assignment pad. Writing the question out will actually help you as a student to think about the concepts your asking. You might figure it out in the process of writing your questions down or you will be even more prepared for the answer.

Doing these two things ahead of time will allow you to learn even more in your lessons, so get to it! Happy Practicing!
